Seattle's exceptionally talented music producer, SEAN WOLCOTT, whose name has been quietly whispered here in Japan, has created the masterpiece "Lady Swordfighter," which can be called the ultimate fictional Japanese film soundtrack. From this work, the sorrowful ballad "Nine Lives Are Not Enough," sung in Japanese, will be released as a limited edition domestic 7-inch by FOURTH WAVE RECORD FACTORY on Tuesday, September 9th.

"Lady Swordfighter," the ninth installment in the library series, surprised Wamono and Japanese film fans alike. Among its impressive tracks, this particular piece is known for brilliantly reviving the echoes of exploitation scores that permeated early 1970s period dramas and mystery films. At its core is psychedelic jazz-funk, intersected by ethereal Japanese sonorities. Shakuhachi, koto, shinobue, and taiko intertwine with a roaring groove, elevating into a soul-stirring melody of sorrow, accompanied by distorted fuzz. It is a drama painted with sound, an unprecedented audio scroll.

Blending psychedelic jazz-funk with the mystique of traditional Japanese instrumentation—shakuhachi, koto, shinobue, and taiko—Wolcott conjures a sound world that recalls the raw power of early ’70s exploitation scores while pushing them into new territory. Distorted fuzz lines meet spectral Japanese melodies, ascending into a drama of sorrow and intensity.

More than just a song, Lady Swordfighter is a cinematic soundscape—an unprecedented audio picture scroll.
