Super bassist Hiroki Ito, famous for his iconic slap bass on Tatsuro Yamashita’s “Sparkle” and “Ride on Time,” has contributed to over 2,000 recording sessions since the 1970s and performed as a backing member for hundreds of musicians. The 2024 live recording from Koki Tetragon, the current band he founded and leads in 2016, is finally being released as a full-length LP! Centered around classic rock and funk, the album showcases a wide range of tracks spanning soul and R&B as well. Standouts include A1 “Continue funny trip,” A2 “Yoroshiku Tanomu Ze,” B1 “Wide Show”—tracks that perfectly embody Tetragon funk—plus the surefire modern Japanese AOR hit “Don’t know why” on A3, the mellow soul ballad “If I Could Meet You in a Dream” on B3, the hard rock track with a drum break “Route 299” on B4, and more. ARTIST PROFILE :

KOKI TETRAGON

Members: Hiroki Ito, Daiji Okai (through 2024), Junichiro Matsukawa, Haruo Kubota, Masahiro Miyazaki (starting 2025)

Formed in 2016 by iconic Japanese bassist Hiroki Ito—best known as the backbone of Tatsuro Yamashita’s band—alongside drummer Daiji Okai (of Shiningami Four), guitarist Junichiro Matsukawa (of SABBRABELLS), and Haruo Kubota (of Pearl Brothers), the group launched to play laid-back rock and blues gigs.

This four-piece with a half-century of hard-earned, battle-tested experience delivers performances they call “everyday playing,” filled with unmatched polished technique, impeccable taste, and the sheer joy of ensemble chemistry.

In 2017, the band released their live album The Classy Rock GIG at Yokohama STORMY MONDAY / Koki Tetragon on CD and DVD simultaneously.

While live activities were paused during the COVID-19 pandemic starting in 2020, the band shifted focus to writing original material, leading to the creation of a wide range of genre-spanning tracks.

From spring to winter 2024, the band released four consecutive singles.

In April 2025, they released "Shikotama", a CD featuring 8 tracks from the previous year’s four singles plus one new track, plus a compilation of music videos for every song.

In June 2025, they released their live album documenting their 2024 tour.

Following the retirement of long-time drummer Daiji Okai, who had been with the band through 2024, Masahiro Miyazaki—of Masayoshi Takanaka’s band—joined as the band’s new drummer.

The band jokingly refers to themselves as “a band with a short shelf life but loads of potential,” and they’re continuing to grow and mature as a group.
